A Stroller, Twins and a Healthy Choice

Catching Up with Lori

It’s hard to NOT notice when an entire family shows up to one of our races—Mom, Dad, and Kiddos ready to go. But when those babes are 4 months old, you MUST know the rest of the story.

We caught up with stroller-pushing Mama Lori and got the deets on her running & family life.

“My husband, Will, and I have made this particular race a tribute to our dear friend, Catalina. She inspired me to take care of my body and enjoy nature. It’s so fitting that The Overflow race takes place in her birthday month.”

When Did You Realize You Love Running?

It’s funny, but I used to hate running. It wasn’t until after having my first child (we have 4) that I found jogging with a stroller to be the best way to “get in” a workout. It just fit my new MOM lifestyle perfectly. I could set small goals for myself and create many sweet memories while running behind my baby.

What Was Your First Experience with
The Florida Run?

In 2021 I ran in The Overflow 4-mile race. I had just discovered that I was pregnant with TWINS (babies #3 & #4.) We snapped some pics at the race and thought using them for our birth announcement was fitting.

I was so grateful that it was an evening race because this Mom was sleep deprived. It ended up being the most ENJOYABLE race with many encouraging people. So, of course, we did it again the following year, pushing our 4-month-old twins in a double stroller. They may have been the youngest Florida race competitors in history! We are super excited to run The Overflow again this May but with 16-month-old toddlers. (Whew! It might be a bit more challenging.)

“Running is a key part of my physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Being a mom requires multitasking, and running has become a way to get the kids outside, get in a workout, pray, listen to audiobooks, or just “check out.”

Is There Any Encouragement You Would Like to Give Other Moms.

Finally, is There Any Funny Run Experience You’ve Had?

Back when I hated running, I signed up for the Pittsburgh Marathon. On race day, the longest distance I had ever run was 12 miles. I thought I would be fine because I was a competitive swimmer in good shape. Finishing all 26.2 miles was the hardest physical accomplishment in my life! Needless to say, IF I ever do a marathon again, I will DEFINITELY train.
